When bacteria causes holes in teeth, we must remove the decay and weakened tooth structure, and replace it. Depending on the size of the cavity and the location in the mouth, we have different ways of doing that.
Most common are white fillings, called composite. We also utilize the long-standing metal, or amalgam, fillings when necessary. If the hole is too big for a filling, we have our skilled ceramist create an inlay, which goes in the tooth. If the hole is too big for an inlay, an onlay is recommended, which goes on part of the tooth. If the hole is too big for a cavity, a crown is recommended. Like fillings, which can be tooth colored or metal, we have different material options for crowns.
